Default New to mesmers, Looking for a build ^_^

Hi, im new to mesmers but i love there style and what they do for a party, BUT i am REALLY lost as to how to play them. I once used a ineptitude mesmer in pvp and i liked it but id like to see what other builds and what they can do for a party. Ive already went to the thread at the top and i dont think that those builds are very current with factions.
Just if you have a nice build you play with for PVE then please post and explain. No pvp plz.

If Search engine gives you outdated builds, look at the 1st few pages of this forum which are filled with builds and discussion of builds. They are also filled with "New To Mesmer, what should I do?" threads. So you might want to check those for the people kind enough to chew it up for you. (no offense meant)

It's perfectly fine. Errare est humanum. (Please don't criticize my Latin...)

Error is human correct? (Been a few years since taking the class =/)
Anyway; for the most part many mesmers do not like to share their builds; as the number of mesmers in GW are few; and each has their own preferences to what skills they perfer. I for one will never touch illusion magic in pve nor diversion for any reason whatsoever; but many other mesmers are the exact opposite. Everyone has their own favorite skills and the mesmer profession is not set in stone like the others.

However a few choice skills for pve are as follows
Shatter hex (if running domination)
Cry of Frustration (even if you arn't running domination)

And the rest are debatable lol

Trying to say something that won't piss Hella Good or Avarre off with something I am very sure they won't agree with; I have enough on my plate as is lol.
Sometimes opinion is best kept to oneself if you know what I mean.

I'm with you Eaimirth, at the risk of enraging the Dons Shatter Hex is great (not PvP, you've got too much else to do without looking for hexed ally who is also near an enemy, I have tried it and ended up not using it too much) and using Illusion I always end up with the same build which gets a bit dull. Diversion needs the cast reduced again and I'd reconsider it....because of 6s duration you need to spam it, with consequent e-issues. It's OK, but others I prefer.

Lol of course of course; I think just about everyone knows my take on diversion. But that is a different story.

Just trying to offer helpful tips without entering some huge arguement over what skill is useful here and what is there and it gets worse considering who you are playing with what type of party what zone and whether you have coffee and have slept recently or not. With all those variables let alone personal preferences I have just about given up using math to simply disprove points and go about it another way.

i like this for awhile in pve

backfire
empathy
leech sig/cry of frustration
power drain
phantom pain
energy burn
shatter delusions
res

you'll run out of energy in some cases but you don't have to throw it all at one target.

backfire will always help the group.
empathy does a lot of over time damage and the monsters are stupid.
leech or cry for skill interrupt. cry will cause you some energy problems in bigger fights.
power drain will be your energy mgmt.
phantom pain is there just to remove. you dont need but a couple in illusion.
shatter will remove pp causing 75 dmg and a deep wound. nasty even at low levels.

once the target is down to 75 percent or so put throw pp/energy burn/shatter at him.

it's something to goof with

get dom as high as you can the put the rest in inspiration, enough to make power drain worthy. as you level up you can spread it between dom, insp and fastcasting.

Again no comment on other builds ^_~; just look at earlier posts for my opinion.

Personally, I've played Mesmer with all their attributes and IMO Domination is superior in so many ways. Im not saying Illusions isn't good because it definitely is. There are some very great builds you can make with Illusions to really be effective... however, Dom gives you access to EVERYTHING You will ever need for a build. You have so many options. I find with Dom I can never fit in everything I want... I'm never looking for "What skill do I put in next"... its always, Ah!! What can I possibly cut out... Almost the problem with Mesmers. They are almost too good

Oh and Diversion ftw... heheh... j/k - although I do love it! Only in PVP though.. in PVE its Meh.

there will come a time when this build will do nothing for the team. and that's what it comes down to. just remember that mesmers aren't eles. they're closer to monks if anything....

and i agree with the others about illusion sucking hard and cry of frustration and shatter hex are both great pve skills.
